Boveda for Musical Instuments?

Boveda takes all the hassle, mess and mystery out of maintaining your guitar. Boveda is smart enough to monitor ambient conditions and will add or remove moisture to maintain 40-55% RH (relative humidity) in your guitar case. And because it requires no activation or maintenance, you spend more time playing your perfectly-maintained guitar.
 

How long will Boveda last?

In a well maintained case, 3 months. If your guitar/case have been neglected, the first set of Boveda won’t last as long as subsequent sets because the case is 75% of the wood in the guitar + case equation. Once the case gets all the moisture it needs, too, Boveda will last 3+ months. Always keep the Boveda in the tightly sealed case, even when the guitar is out. The wood in the case can lose a lot of moisture in minutes/hours of being left open.
 

Will Boveda over-humidify my guitar?

Never. Boveda is the only product in the world that knows when to stop adding moisture and won’t humidify beyond the RH on the pack. Using more than recommended will just work more efficiently and last longer.

WHY DOES IT SEEM LIKE MY 49% RH BOVEDA DOESN’T WORK?

The 49% RH Boveda are designed to keep a specific range of humidity instead of a specific relative humidity as they are designed specifically to humidify wooden instruments, which should be kept between 40-60% relative humidity. To maximize the lifespan of the 49% Boveda packs, they start at the top of the range – high 50’s – and as they release their moisture end at the bottom of the range – low 40’s.


WHEN DO I REPLACE MY BOVEDA?

Boveda will solidify as they expire. When there aren’t many soft spots left, then you’ll want to replace them. Pronounced crystallization and hardening of the corners first is completely normal and a part of the usage process. You can expect 2–6 months of usage like depending on the container and external environment.
 

Boveda works on the scientific principle that certain salts mixed with water will naturally regulate humidity. Boveda’s patents are on the methods invented to make this scientific principle portable and practical for the rigors of packaging applications. Boveda absorbs and emits only purified water vapor through its semipermeable membrane and does not damage material through direct contact.
